Head coach Gary Kirsten resigns, Jason Gillespie appointed for Australia tour
Things had been bad between the PCB and Gary Kirsten for some time
Lahore: The head coach of the national One Day International (ODI) and T20 team, Gary Kirsten, resigned after falling out with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), after which Jason Gillespie was appointed as the head coach for the tour of Australia.
According to the details, the head coach of the Pakistan White Ball Team, Gary Kirsten, has resigned from his position due to differences with PCB and selection committee member Aqib Javed.
It is also reported that things had been bad between the PCB and Gary Kirsten for some time, who was angry at not being allowed to bring his team to the support staff.
The reports suggested that Gary Kirsten was also angry at the interference of Aqib Javed and the selection committee and was not happy with the recent team selection for the tour of Australia.
Aqib Javed, who was included in the selection committee after the resignation of Gary Kirsten, was likely to be made the acting head coach for the tour of Australia, but the PCB decided to assign this responsibility to the head coach of the national test team, Jason Gillespie.
It is pertinent to note that due to differences with the PCB, the arrival of the head coach of the ODI and T20 team to Australia was also uncertain. Gary Kirsten had not officially informed the Board about going to Australia.
As per the schedule, Gary Kirsten is scheduled to reach Australia today from South Africa to join the Pakistan team. The first group of Pakistan team including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah left Pakistan for Australia last night while the rest of the squad members will leave today.
PCB had withdrawn the selection powers from both the coaches and the captain after the first Test against England.
Jason Gillespie, head coach of the national Test team, had also expressed reservations over the dropping of Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah in the middle of the England series.
