Chief Justice Afridi heard 30 case on his first day in court

Islamabad: Chief Justice Yahya Afridi on Monday heard 30 cases on his first day as the top judge of Supreme Court.

The chief justice heard the cases in just one hour and 15 minutes – from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.

CJP Afridi adjourned six cases till 11:30 for various reasons while completed the hearing of 24 cases.

Chief Justice Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal were hearing the cases in bench No 1. 

Later, Chief Justice Afridi attended first full court session he called after assuming the office.

The session started at 1pm “to take up concerns of judges and other judicial matters.”

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is not part of the session as he is on leave to perform Umrah.

Meanwhile, a cause list has also been issued according to which around 968 cases will be heard from today until Nov 1. Eight regular benches in the Supreme Court will deal with these cases.

As many as 140 cases were fixed for proceedings in CJP's court for one week.
