No measures for climate change will lead to great losses: PM
Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan lost $30 billion due to floods
Baku: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that if timely measures are not taken to deal with climate change, there will be losses in the coming time.
Addressing the COP 29 Summit in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, Shehbaz Sharif stated that schools, houses, and crops in Pakistan were severely damaged due to floods and Pakistan lost $30 billion.
Prime Minister added that the world has promised to help Pakistan with the losses caused by climate change. The promises made in COP 28 should be implemented.
He further said: “We do not want other countries to face a situation like Pakistan which is taking strong measures to deal with climate change”.
The Prime Minister also stated that they were working on a National Carbon Market Framework. The world will have to help developing countries like Pakistan which wants to invest in alternative energy sources.
