TikTok tests new ‘Stories’ feature, Becomes latest Snapchat copycat
Popular video sharing app TikTok, is now testing its own “Stories” feature, allowing users to post content that vanishes after 24 hours.
Yet another app is poised to add the popular feature as the platform is testing disappearing stories product as part of an effort to encourage more users to share content.
New feature comes after several other tech platforms added their own version including WhatsApp and Instagram. TikTok is the latest major social media platform to experiment with the feature— which Snapchat first made famous in 2013.
Stories that disappear after one day were first invented by Snap Inc. and further popularised by Instagram, which copied the product with its own version in 2016.
A British social media consultant, Matt Navarra gave his followers a look at TikTok’s “Stories” test on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
As per an official familiar with the matter, the company is thinking about new ways to bring value to their community and enrich the TikTok experience.
"Currently we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community," the official added.
The news comes as popular messaging platform, WhatsApp rolls out a function that allows its users to have photos or videos that vanish after they are seen.
The feature, "view once" enables media to be deleted after the recipient opens it for the first time and doesn't save to phone.
