Electronic voting machines ‘best source’ for election transparency, says Fawad
Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are best source for election transparency.
In a statement, the federal minister said that the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is emphasizing on the use of technology to ensure transparency in the elections.
“Next general elections can be conducted on the EVMs if the government and the opposition parties reach a consensus,” he said urging opposition parties to take their decision after reviewing the EVMs.
Fawad Chaudhry further stated that EVMs meet all the conditions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“Transparency in elections is the narrative of the Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Election Commission had put forward 36 conditions stating that if a machine meets those 36 conditions, they can be used in the election. The new technology we have brought meets all the requirements of ECP,” he said adding that use of Electronic Voting Machines will reduce the possibility of rigging besides ensuring immediate results.
It may be recalled that on August 07, Prime Minister Imran Khan was given a briefing on electronic voting machine in Islamabad. Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Shibli Faraz briefed Imran Khan on the voting method and features of the machine.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also cast a mock vote to test the performance of voting machine and congratulated team that developed the voting machine.
