1.1 million workers to get Mazdoor (Labour) cards in first phase: Chohan
Lahore: Punjab government will issue Mazdoor cards for the first time in the history of Pakistan after "successful launch" of Sahet card and Kissan card, spokesman Fayyazul Hasan Chohan said Saturday.
"The issuance of Mazdoor Card for labourers is a pride for the Buzdar government. The scope of this card will be expanded to the whole province," the minister said in a statement.
Chohan said with the support of the Bank of Punjab Bank as many 1.1 million workers would be getting Mazdoor cards and about 68 million family members of labourers will also be beneficiaries from this card.
He said the Mazdoor Card would be used as ATM, Debit Card, Walt Account and Identity Code. He further stated that the card will not only be used in Hospitals and Dispensaries of Social Security Institute throughout the province but also in the enlisted private hospitals.
The card will give 11 cash benefits to its recipient besides ensuring the minimum wages to the labourers. Workers could get benefits from Industrial Workers Housing Schemes and Akhuwat through Mazdoor Card, while 30% discount can be availed on the products of 150 companies.
Concession will be given to the workers from railways, stores and private schools. Work is being carried out to interlink Sahet Saholat Card with Mazdoor Card, he added.
Chohan further disclosed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon launch first of its kind and unique Punjab Cards, for which MoU has been signed between PEESI and Bank of Punjab.
