Authorities decide to conduct trial of suspects inside jail due to security concerns


LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to hold the trial of the suspects in the lynching of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot within the prison premises on Saturday.
According to the details garnered, a key progress has been made in the murder of the Sri Lankan citizen as the provincial government decided to conduct trials of all the suspects involved in the Sialkot lynching of the Sri Lankan national inside prison.
As per sources, the decision to hold the trial inside the prison was reached after a meeting of the prosecution team and the Punjab government. This decision was taken due to the security concerns. The prosecution also asked the jail administration to make the necessary arrangements to conduct the trial.
Police have also been directed to complete the necessary legal procedures and submit the completed challans to the court as soon as possible.
It is pertinent to mention here that recent arrests came after the law enforcement officials traced the culprits via CCTV footage and cellular data.
Earlier, Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat told police to submit a challan of the Sialkot lynching incident in 14 days.
