Rs14 billion recovered in past four years: Chairman NAB
NAB chief Javed Iqbal said the bureau has recovered Rs14 billion in past four years
Islamabad: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Thursday said that we have recovered 14 billion rupees directly and indirectly in the past four years.
While addressing to a ceremony Chairman NAB said that the anti-graft watchdog was set up to eradicate corruption and recover money from the corrupt elements.
Rejecting the allegation that the amount recovered was usurped by the NAB officials, he said that truth of the matter was that the entire amount was distributed among the affectees of corruption scandals.
“And while this was being done, it was made sure that the money was returned to only those to whom it belonged,” he clarified. “Do criticize the Bureau, but not without a proof,” he urged people, particularly the politicians.
He told that the bureau has opened inquiries against the most powerful people who were considered unapproachable. 56 billion rupees were recovered from housing societies, he added.
Justice Javed Iqbal further stated that NAB can only submit these recoveries to the national treasure. "There is no law under which NAB distributes these recoveries anywhere else", Chairman NAB added.
The chairman assured that NAB has all the record of the recovered amount.
