They were on routine patrol when the incident occurred.
Islamabad: A police officer has embraced martyrdom while another sustained bullet wounds after two unknown armed men shot them near Bhara Kahu police station in Islamabad on Saturday (February 12) morning.
According to preliminary details, the gunmen were in car and opened fire on a passerby, following which police officials started chasing them.
“The suspects continued firing at officers who responded to the scene,” said officials, adding that both were on routine patrol when the incident occurred.
Police and rescue teams reached the spot after getting information and shifted the dead and injured to a nearby hospital.
As per police, one suspect was injured during the exchange and was, thus, detained. The other gunman managed to flee the scene.
Police obtained the CCTV footage of the incident and further investigation is underway.
According to the spokesperson, the deceased officer was identified as Sub-inspector Liaquat Ali.
Detailing the entire event, authorities revealed that the incident occurred owing to an old enmity between the two rival groups.
