Electricity prices have been reduced by Rs2.59 per unit.

Islamabad: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to cut power tariff by Rs2.59 per unit for K-Electric consumers on account of Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for December 2021.
According to an official statement, electricity prices have been reduced by Rs2.59 per unit on account of fuel price adjustment for the month of December and the charges will be adjusted in the bill for March.
The decision will apply to consumers using 300 and above units of electricity and agricultural consumers—leaving out a large number, who were charged extra tariff on the account of fuel price hike.
K-Electric had requested a reduction in the price of electricity on which the authority held a public hearing on February 2.
NEPRA, however, conducted a public hearing on KE’s petition for a reduction of Rs1.79/unit in power tariff.
The hearing was presided over by Chairman NEPRA Tauseef H Farooqi.
During the hearing, the K-Electric officials informed that the reason for the reduction in tariff is mainly due to less use of expensive furnace oil.
It is pertinent to mention that NEPRA had reduced the KE’s tariff under monthly FCA by Rs0.76/unit for the month of November.
