Kelash Kumar becomes first-ever Hindu Lieutenant Colonel of Pakistan Army.


Islamabad: In a first, a Hindu officer, Kelash Kumar has been promoted as Lieutenant Colonel in the Pakistan Army, GNN reported.
According to reports, Kelash Kumar has become the first-ever Hindu officer to have been promoted as Lieutenant Colonel Pakistan army.
A Hindu activist Kapil Dev turned to twitter, to congratulate Kelash, sharing his picture with the caption ‘History in Making’.

Reports quoting sources stated that Lt Col Kumar was serving in the army’s Medical corps.
Hails from Sindh’s Tharparkar district, Kelash is the first Hindu-Pakistani to be elevated to the position. His rank was upgraded from Major to Lieutenant Colonel during the promotion boards.
Previously, Hindus were not permitted to join the Pakistan Army until 2000.
In 2019, Dr Kelash Garvada became the first-ever Hindu Major in the armed forces and was posted in the Ministry of Defence.
