PM directs to strictly ensure ‘foolproof’ security for Imran Khan
Shehbaz Sharif directed Minister for Interior Rana Sanauallah Khan to personally monitor the security arrangements.
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Interior to ensure effective and foolproof security of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan, who received two security alerts ahead of his first rally in Lahore today (Thursday).
According to details, Shehbaz Sharif directed Minister for Interior Rana Sanauallah Khan to personally monitor the security arrangements.
In line with the directives of the Prime Minister, the Interior Minister has sent emergency letters to Home Secretaries of all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Islamabad Police to ensure strict security of Imran Khan.
The Interior Ministry has also directed officials concerned to ensure measures including bomb disposal at Imran Khan's Bani Gala residence.
It has also warned that no negligence or lapse in the security of Imran Khan during his rallies and public gatherings will be tolerated.
As per Ministry of Interior's letter, strict and fool proof security may be ensured during the travel of Imran Khan anywhere in the country.
Moreover, the district administration has advised Imran Khan to use a bulletproof vehicle with a sunroof and windows shut to move to and from the venue of the rally, Minar-e-Pakistan.
Furthermore, the deputy commissioner has even advised Imran Khan not to visit Minar-e-Pakistan and address the public meeting over the phone, and if he does, the dais for his address must be shielded with a bulletproof glass screen.
However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did not alter its plan and announced that the rally will start at 8pm as scheduled.
The authorities concerned, hence, were warned that no negligence would be allowed regarding thr security measures, particularly during Imran Khan’s public engagements and gatherings.
