Nowshera: Rescuers overcome Taro oil tankers blaze
Over 150 firefighters took part in extinguishing flames that lasted more than six hours
Noshehra: A major fire that engulfed Taro Oil Depot tankers in Nowshera on Saturday evening was brought under control after more than six hours efforts, rescuers and police said.
About 40 big tankers were burnt in the fire. The rescue operation lasted for more than six hours in which 150 rescuers from Nowshera, Mardan and Charsadda took part.
Director General Rescue 1122 Dr Khatir Ahmed directly supervised the fire fighting operation.
It is feared that at least two million liters of petrol amassed in 50 oil tankers has been burnt.
According to rescue officials, the blaze erupted in the parking area at some distance from Taro Jabba Oil Depot and spread as soon as they saw it.
Rescue 1122 firefighters and fire vehicles from Nowshera were rushed to the spot as soon as the fire was reported and efforts are underway to control the fire.
Rescue officials said a fire broke out in a parking area a short distance from Taro Jabba Oil Depot and spread far and wide, with about 20 tankers reportedly on fire.
Considering the severity of the fire, fire vehicles were also called from Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda.
It was informed that a total of 25 fire vehicles are engaged in efforts to control the fire while 150 personnel of Rescue 1122 are participating in the operation.
According to the deputy commissioner, a total of 2 million liters of petrol has been burnt due to the fire in the oil depot while the damage is being estimated.
