President approves appointment of Ashtar Ausaf as AGP
Mr. Ausaf has also worked as Advocate General of Punjab twice in 1998-99 and 2012-13.
Islamabad: President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved appointment of Ashtar Ausaf Ali as Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP).
The President accorded approval to the appointment on the advice of the Prime Minister under Article 100 (1) of the constitution.
Ashtar Ausaf is replacing Khalid Jawed Khan, who resigned on April 9 after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted through a no-confidence motion.
Ausaf has also been the Attorney General during former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s tenure. He has also been the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Law and Justice in 2015-16.
Mr. Ausaf has also worked as Advocate General of Punjab twice in 1998-99 and 2012-13.
He served as Advocate General for Punjab twice from 1998 to 1999 and 2012 to 2013 during PML-N's tenure. Ashtar also served as Prosecutor General of the province from 2011 to 2012.
Ali is also the founder of a private law firm Ashtar Ali LLP.
He was also the Attorney General in the Panama case and other cases, and was also the lawyer of former Naval Chief Admiral (retd) Zafar Mahmood Abbasi in the Naval Sailing Club case.
