Pakistan’s legendary artist ‘Uncle Sargam’ being remembered

Sialkot: Pakistan is remembering iconic puppeteer Farooq Qaiser aka Uncle Sargam on his first death anniversary on Saturday (May 14).

Born in 1945, Farooq Qaiser traveled to different cities of Pakistan due to his father’s job and his educational journey was completed in different cities, ie matriculated from Peshawar, FA from Quetta, and graduated from the National College of Fine Arts, Lahore.
He did his Masters in Romania and in 1999 he did his Masters in Mass Communication from California, USA.
Farooq started his artistic career after graduating from the National College of Fine Arts Lahore in the early ’70s.
Uncle Sargam was a household name for Pakistani children of the 80s and 90s with his prominent puppet show Kaliyan at that time.
Along with Kaliyan, Putli Tamasha and Sargam Time were Qaiser's most loved TV shows.
Qaiser was a columnist, director, puppeteer, scriptwriter and a voice-over artist and is known for his comic books.
The renowned artist also wrote several humorous books and provided educational services in India for two years as part of Unesco.
He was awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance award in 1993 for his craft. He was also awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz during a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Pakistan Day.
