According to details, the event unfolded at around 6pm when a freight train derailed and crashed into a passenger train at the station in Sant Boi de Llobregat on Monday evening.
"The driver of the passenger train died as a result of the impact," the regional government said in a statement.
Emergency crews said they were helping to remove about 100 people from the passenger train.
