Monkeypox: Authorities initiate screening at airports
NIH claims no case has been detected in Pakistan so far
Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad: Authorities have begun screening of passengers at major airports of the country in the wake of rising cases of monkeypox.
According to the details, screening has been started due to the fear of possible presence of Monkey Pax in the passengers coming to Pakistan from abroad. High alert has been issued at all international airports including Karachi from 12 o'clock last night, Europe and USA. Screening of travelers from countries including Monkey Pax is underway.

In this regard, Dr. Zafar Mehdi said that the patients showing symptoms of the disease will be transferred to the hospital of the Federal Health Establishment within the limits of the airport. The hospital has all the facilities for the treatment of Monkey Pax while the provincial health department is also making arrangements for the transfer to the government hospital.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) on Tuesday said that no cases of monkeypox cases have yet been detected in Pakistan as it clarified that 'news' to the contrary circulating on social media was "incorrect".

The clarification from the institute comes a day after it issued an alert, calling upon national and provincial health authorities to remain on high alert for any suspected case of monkeypox.
According to the NIH, no case of the virus has been reported in Pakistan so far and steps to pre-empt a potential outbreak in the country have already been taken, with arrangements made at all airports, including medical screenings, in order to identify any infected passengers.
