Karachi: Pakistan Peoples Party candidates ruled in 13 of 14 districts of Sindh in ongoing local government elections.
The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) is still leading in District Council Ghotki.
According to the results of the district council, the PPP has won a decisive majority in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, ie Nawabshah and Umerkot.
Besides, PPP is ahead of its rivals in Sukkur, Khairpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Shikarpur, Nowshero Feroze, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas and Tharparkar.
In Ghotki, results have emerged for 14 of the 66 district council seats, of which 11 have been won by the GDA.
Muhammad Mian Soomro of PTI from Jacobabad is the current Member National Assembly but PTI has suffered the worst defeat and so far 24 out of 30 seats have been won by PPP and 6 independent candidates.
In the urban area of Nawabshah, the PPP made a big upset by winning 51 out of 56 seats and here the MQM could not win any seat despite its traditional vote bank.
In Mirpur Khas Town Committee too, PPP won 53 out of 68 seats while MQM won only 4 seats despite its traditional constituency influence.
PTI was only able to show some presence in Umerkot district of Shah Mehmood Qureshi's constituency where so far 6 out of 14 seats of Municipal Committee have been won by PTI while 8 seats have been won by PPP.
In Nowshero Feroze, the stronghold of the PPP's rival Jatoi group, the PPP also defeated its rivals and has so far won 22 out of 25 seats in the district council.
The toughest contest between the PPP and the GDA was expected in Khairpur, but here too the PPP has so far won 32 out of 35 seats in the District Council and 84 out of 132 seats in the Municipal Committees.
