COAS General Bajwa retiring in five weeks: Sources
General Qamar Javed Bajwa will not be seeking an extension.
Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa stated that he will not take extension and retire after five weeks, GNN reported, quoting sources.
As per sources, General Qamar Javed Bajwa will be retiring in five weeks and will not be seeking an extension.
On October 5, General Qamar Javed Bajwa announced his pledge to retire at the end of his second term this November, saying that the ‘armed forces have distanced themselves from politics'.
The statement came during his address at a luncheon at Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
Speaking informally on the occasion, General Qamar Javed Bajwa reiterated his resolve to leave after the completion of his term this November.
Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa says effective diplomacy is only possible through a strong economy.
The Army Chief said reviving the country's ailing economy should be the first priority of all segments of society as without a strong economy it's hard to achieve set targets
Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa was given an additional three-year term in 2019. However, the general still qualifies for another term.
There is a possibility that the incumbent might be interested in or looking for another extension. But as per a military source close to Bajwa, he would retire in November.
