Islamabad: Senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif has been shot dead in Kenya's Nairobi city, confirmed his wife Javeria Siddiqui early Monday.

Javeria Siddiqui on her official Twitter handle wrote: “I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist,” adding that “he was shot in Kenya”.

She also appealed to the media and social media users to respect the privacy of family.

Family sources and colleagues have confirmed that Arshad has passed away. No further information is available.

After the news of the untimely demise of the journalist, condolences poured in from colleagues, politicians and social media users.

GNN’s senior journalist and analyst Arif Hameed Bhatti didn’t seem to believe the sudden death of his beloved friend and in a series of tweets expressed his grief for the bereaved family.

“Did the government confirm that Arshad Sharif has been martyred? He is not unfaithful, he cannot leave his wife, children, family alone. You may also be mistaken,” the tweet read.

“Unbelievable. May Allah rest the soul of Arshad Sharif in peace. Ameen,” journalist Hamid Mir tweeted.

Shahzeb Khanzada also turned to Twitter and wrote: "Extremely sad to hear the devastating news about Arshad Sharif. May his soul rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers with his family".
Arshad Sharif was in London a few days ago after arriving in the city from Dubai. Kenya police have confirmed his death and have opened an investigation into the tragic incident.

Arshad, undoubtedly a seasoned journalist, was one of Pakistan’s top news anchors. He was popular among journalists across the country. Sharif was awarded ‘Presidential Pride of Performance’ for his exceptional journalism in 2019.
