PTI calls for nationwide protest after Friday prayers

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Asad Umar announced that the party will launch countrywide protests after Friday prayers, adding that 'demonstrations will be conducted until the demand of former premier is met'. 

On his official Twitter handle, the PTI leader wrote: “Protests will be held after Friday prayers today”.

“Nationwide protests will continue, until Imran Khan's demands are met,” added Umar

Imran Khan, who was leading a protest march demanding snap elections, was shot in the leg yesterday. He is out of danger and taken to a hospital in Lahore for treatment. The firing also resulted in injuries to PTI leader Faisal Javed Khan.

Reportedly, a total of 14 people were wounded in the incident, according to doctors, while one of Khan’s supporters, identified as Muazzam Nawaz, died. Imran, however, is in a stable condition and conscious. 

The identity of the suspect, who was arrested by police at the scene, was not immediately clear.

The charged PTI activists and followers took to the streets in all parts of the country to condemn the assassination attempt on their leader Imran Khan on Thursday.

The protesters blocked roads and crossings and chanted slogans in favour of Imran. In Islamabad, protesters occupied IJP road and traffic police placed diversions on it.

Supporters in Faisalabad blocked Clock Tower Roundabout and shops in the vicinity of the place shut down.

Moreover, protesters also held a sit-in at Murree Road and Rung Pura in Sialkot.

PTI supporters are also present at GT road and Gujranwala road. In Quetta, supporters are protesting outside Quetta secretariat.

In Karachi, protesters are present outside Insaf House at Shahrah-e-Faisal and also in several places of Landhi and Hub road. Chishtian and Jhelum also witnessed protests.
