According to details, the data is available for free online, which once again gives an idea of how much details Facebook collects about users.

Various particulars of 533 million Facebook users such as phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, date of birth, bio and some email addresses are now available on a website.

Confirming the leak of user data, “This is old data that was previously reported on in 2019,” a Facebook spokesperson wrote in a statement. “We found and fixed this issue in August 2019.”

Earlier, in August 2019, the company had fixed a bug in its server that allowed hackers to get the details.

The database, which was first leaked in 2019, was initially being sold on instant messaging platform Telegram for a fee of $20 per search. Facebook had then said that it had patched the vulnerability that has caused the leak. But, in June 2020, and, then in January 2021, the same database was leaked again. The vulnerability was the same: it allowed users to search for a person’s number.

The data was discovered on April 3, 2021, by Alon Gal, chief technology officer at cybersecurity intelligence company Hudson Rock.

Alon Gal, the co-founder and chief technical officer of cybersecurity firm Hudson Rock was the first to flag this matter.

In a fresh Twitter post, Gal shared the details of the leaked database, which contained leaked information of the users and said that if someone had a Facebook account, it was extremely likely that the said details had been leaked.

According to the database of the latest alleged leak, details of as many as 0.55 million users from Afghanistan, 1.2 million from Australia, 3.8 million from Bangladesh, 8 million from Brazil, and 6.1 million from India had been put up for free on several forums.

He said in a tweet that such a large database is often not immediately shared on a great scale because hackers want to make money on a long-term basis.

On the other hand, a report said that the phone number of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is also part of this detail. It is also claimed that Mark Zuckerberg's details including name, location, marriage details, date of birth and Facebook user ID have all been leaked.
