Earlier, Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned the Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) of Islamabad and Punjab at 6:00 pm in former information minister Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest case.
Punjab Advocate General (AAG) Chaudhry Muhammad Jawad Yaqub told the court that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry was in the custody of the Islamabad police.
The revelation was made during the hearing of a petition challenging Chaudhry’s arrest for ‘allegedly inciting violence against officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan’.
During the hearing, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh asked the officials about the former minister’s whereabouts, to which Additional Muhammad Jawad replied that he was not in the custody of the Punjab Police.
Reportedly, the Islamabad Police had shifted Fawad to Services Hospital in Lahore for a medical check-up, after which they left for the federal capital despite the LHC'’s order to present him before it.
Deepening political crisis in the country, the senior politician and former federal minister has been arrested on sedition charges.
In their first information report (FIR), police said the politician “threatened and harassed” the ECP officials.
