Islamabad court allows one-day physical remand of PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur
The court has directed the police to produce him in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) the other day.
Islamabad: A local court in Islamabad granted a one-day physical remand of Ali Amin Gandapur, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, in connection with a terrorism and sedition case.
The court directed the police to produce him in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) the following day.
Gandapur was initially taken into custody by the Dera Ismail Khan police on Thursday after multiple cases were filed against him by the Islamabad and Punjab police.
He was then handed over to the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police on Saturday in relation to the case registered against him at the Golra Police Station in the federal capital.
On Sunday, the Islamabad police presented Gandapur before the duty magistrate's court. The prosecutor informed the court that Gandapur had to undergo a test and the police had to collect evidence.
Reading out the details of the FIR against the PTI leader, the prosecutor said that Gandapur mentioned the plan to attack Islamabad in the audio linked to the case. He also claimed that Gandapur threatened to gather weapons to fight against the police. Gandapur's lawyer, Babar Awan, argued that the complaint did not mention the police or the individual responsible, and that the PTI leader was not supposed to be presented in this court as it was a terror case.
The counsel requested the court to discharge Gandapur from the case, but the court approved only a day's physical remand and directed the police to produce him in an ATC the following day.
