PTA restores internet services in Pakistan
The authority’s spokesperson says they have started restoring internet on the directives received from the interior ministry.
Islamabad: Good news for the citizens as Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Friday that it had started restoring internet in the country.
The PTA made this day after it blocked the internet services across the country after the PTI workers and supporters launched protests against arrest of their leader Imran Khan.
The authority suspended the internet services on May 9 on the directives of the interior ministry. The different cities also observed violent protests as public and private installations came under attack. The access to the major social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube was also blocked.
“The Internet services are being restored,” said the PTA spokesperson, adding that they received directives from the interior ministry in this regard. However, he said, the interior ministry did not issue any directives for the social media platforms.
The reports suggested that the internet blockage caused huge loss of Rs820 million for the telecom operators—a big loss for the sector at this time when the country is serious economic crisis.
