Punjab govt establishes Journalists’ Protection Committee
The committee has been set up to investigate and redress abuses against journalists.
Lahore: The caretaker government of Punjab province has established the Journalists Protection Coordination Committee.
Punjab Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir announced that the committee has been set up to investigate and redress abuses against journalists. “It will review the incidents of violence against journalists and take appropriate actions,” he added
According to the Information Minister, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) will be the convener of the Legal Punjab Committee.
While the President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the president of Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) and the President of Lahore Press Club (LPC) have also been included in the committee.
Reportedly, Punjab cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Order approved the formation of the committee.
