'Covid third wave' : Smart lockdown imposed in ten areas of Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: Following the reports of persistent spike in the number of Covid-19 deaths and new positive cases in Punjab, the government has imposed smart lockdown in 10 areas of Rawalpindi, Gujar Khan and Texla on Sunday.

According to notification in this regard, Punjab health department imposed smart lockdown at Takbeer Lane, Muhallah Adiala, Judicial apartments, Civil Lines, Gulshan-e-Saeed, Chakri Road and Hashmi Colony.

Moreover, Kashmir House opposite Mandira, Kamal Abadgali and Tench Bhatta were also put under smart lockdown as they were identified as virus hotspots.

The entry and exit points of those areas have been sealed with immediate effect till April 27 and the authorities have been directed to ensure restriction on the mass movement and commercial activities as per the given guidelines in the areas of the above-mentioned areas.

As per notification, all markets, shopping malls, restaurants, offices will remain closed in these areas and there will be a complete ban on transport whether public or private. However, an exception has been made on transport of people by granting limited movement of one person per vehicle to and from the exempted facilities.

“Medical stories, grocery shops, petrol pumps, vegetable and meat shops will, remain opened in these areas,” added notification.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has reported 149 deaths by novel coronavirus in one day.

According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 6,127 cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 16,243.

The total number of confirmed cases reached to 756,285.

As many as 659,483 patients have recovered from the disease with 4,446 critical cases.
