Mississippi: Tragedy struck near the Tupelo Regional Airport in Mississippi as a small plane crashed, resulting in the loss of two lives, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
The victims of the crash were identified as the pilot and a local doctor. The incident occurred around 8:00 am, with the aircraft narrowly missing the Army Aviation Support Facility.
Tupelo Fire Department Sergeant Michael Moody confirmed the fatalities, but the identities of the victims have not been disclosed. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
An eyewitness described seeing the plane banking sharply before witnessing a plume of smoke. Despite stopping to offer assistance, the intensity of the flames prevented any immediate rescue efforts.
Emergency responders, including National Guardsmen and fire trucks, swiftly arrived at the scene within minutes of the crash.
