Islamabad: The prominent leaders and ministers of the ruling alliance parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP), are scheduled to convene for further negotiations in order to address differences on Monday.
The sources privy to the development said that the primary objective of this meeting is to find common ground on the country's financial matters and alleviate tensions between the federal and Sindh provincial governments.
They said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would chair the meeting while Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would also be present there.
Criticism from PPP leaders regarding the budget proposals for the upcoming fiscal year intensified the significance of this gathering.
According to sources, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is presently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and several noteworthy individuals, including Punjab's caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, traveled to the UAE for a meeting with him.
The growing strain between the PML-N and PPP could prompt Zardari's early return, as he may intervene to mitigate the situation. Additionally, it has been observed that certain PML-N leaders have recently started expressing criticism towards the PPP leadership, potentially deepening the divide between the two parties.
While the federal government is willing to address the demands of the Sindh government, it emphasizes that the necessary funds will be provided after securing contributions from donors, as committed during a previous meeting held in Geneva last year.
