Mardan: A local court in Mardan ordered the incarceration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Ali Muhammad Khan for a 14-day judicial remand in a corruption case.
This comes as the PTI leader was arrested for the sixth time, immediately after being released by an anti-corruption court in Peshawar on Tuesday.
Initially, the court had granted interim bail to Ali Muhammad Khan in a case related to alleged fraudulent appointments in the fisheries department, causing losses of Rs2.3 million to the national treasury. However, he was subsequently taken into custody by the anti-corruption establishment (ACE) officials in connection with another case involving embezzlement of funds in various contracts.
Earlier in May, Ali Muhammad Khan was arrested by the Islamabad capital territory police under the Maintenance of Public Order Order (MPO) in relation to violent protests and attacks on civil and military installations. The protests erupted across the country after the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
After being discharged from all cases related to the May 9 mayhem and attacks on civil and military installations, Ali Muhammad Khan was released from prison on June 9. However, he was promptly taken into custody by the ACE in a corruption case.
During the recent court proceedings, the judicial magistrate rejected the ACE's request for physical remand of the PTI leader.
