PTI government in Gilgit-Baltistan is completely ousted.
Gilgit: Khalid Khurshid, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, has been declared invalid due to a fake degree.
Just today, a motion of no-confidence against Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid was initiated, but even before the voting took place, the High Court of Gilgit-Baltistan declared him invalid.
After hearing the evidence presented by the three-member bench on Gulam Shahzad Agha's petition, a unanimous decision of invalidation was reached.
Nine members of the opposition had gathered in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Secretariat to push for a motion of no-confidence against Khalid Khurshid.
Furthermore, Abdul Hameed of the People's Party and Rana Farman Ali of the PML-N challenged Khalid Khurshid's degree in the Election Commission, prompting the Chief Election Commissioner to issue a notice to the Chief Minister.
Gulam Shahzad Agha, a member of the People's Party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, had demanded the invalidation of the Chief Minister's degree under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Although the degree of Gilgit-Baltistan's Chief Minister was from London, it had not been verified by the university.
During the hearing, the petitioner had requested through his lawyer, Amjad Hussain, that the degree claimed by the Chief Minister from the University of London was not verified, and the Higher Education Commission had declared it fake.
Khalid Khurshid had taken oath as Chief Minister on December 1, 2020. He had been a close associate of Imran Khan.
With his invalidation, the PTI government in Gilgit-Baltistan has also been completely ousted.
