Man arrested for Holy Quran desecration in Russia
Egyptian individual detained on charges of vandalism and religious offense.
Russian authorities have promptly arrested an individual involved in the act of blasphemy, Holy Quran desecration, and initiated criminal proceedings against him.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, legal action has been initiated against a 28-year-old Egyptian citizen who shared a video of himself desecrating a sacred book in the western Russian city of Ulyanovsk.
The Investigative Committee in Ulyanovsk has placed the suspect under custody on charges of vandalism and insulting religious sentiments.
A statement by the investigative agency revealed that the heinous act took place on July 1st.
According to the Russian news website Sputnik News, citing the investigative agency, the suspect was located on the pedestrian bridge over the Sviyaga River, connecting the streets of Avtozavodskaya and Vorobyova in Ulyanovsk.
He allegedly carried out provocative actions to incite and hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims.
The office of the committee announced in a statement on its website that the suspect, after committing the act of desecration, attempted to take his own life.
Consequently, he has been taken into custody on charges of vandalism, attempted suicide, and religious offenses.
Authorities are currently searching for the suspect's place of residence.
