Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has provisionally renewed K-Electric’s (KE) licence for six months.

The existing term of the distribution license is set to expire on July 20 (today), thus K-Electric has asked NEPRA to extend it for an additional 20 years.

K-Electric claimed in its appeal to the NEPRA that it currently serves 3.4 million customers and that the license renewal is in the best interests of both the power industry and customers.

As per details, the distribution license for KE will be provisionally renewed by NEPRA for a period of six months from the date of expiration or until the authority makes a definitive decision in the case, whichever comes first.

The Order states that the Authority observed that the Regulatory Meeting had discussed the issue of the KE license and determined to hold a public hearing on it.

K-Electric should be permitted to continue its operations up until the end of the regulatory process, which might take 3-6 months.

Earlier today, Electricity consumers are going to suffer another shock as National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved another hike of Rs1.90 in power price for the month of May.

According to the report, the consumers will pay an additional Rs21.10 billion in the next month's bills due to the increase in the price.

NEPRA stated that the Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA) had requested an increase of Rs2.0 per unit, responding to which it heard the petition for fuel price adjustment on July 5.

According to the notification, it will be applicable to all consumers of discos except lifeline and electric vehicle charging stations, the increase will not be applicable to electric consumers.
