NDMA has dircted that people should be notified in advance and safety measures should be publicized to prevent potential hazards.


Islamabad: The Meteorological Department has predicted more rains in various parts of the country, resulting in the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in rivers.
According to the Department of Meteorology, areas of Dera Ghazi Khan, Northeast and South Balochistan (Quetta, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sherani, Harnai, Bolan, Loralai, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Kech, Torbat, Panjgur, Awaran and adjoining areas) have a risk of flooding in the rivers during next 24 hours.
The low-lying areas are likely to be flooded due to heavy rain in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Qasor and Faisalabad during the upcoming two days.
There is also a risk of landslides in the hilly areas of Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory for the prediction of more rains of the Meteorological Department and the possible hazards resulting from them.
The advisory of NDMA said that due to heavy rains in the next 24 hours, the districts of Loralai, Kalat, Sibi, Makran, Nasirabad may face flooding in the rivers and streams, while in Dera Ghazi Khan, the hill torrent may occur. Similarly, there is a fear of flash flooding in the rivers connected to the Kabul River.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the risk of landslides, flash flooding and seasonal flooding will continue.
There is a risk of hill torrents in the hilly areas of South Punjab and Balochistan, as well as rapid flows in rivers and urban flooding in low-lying areas.
In its advisory, NDMA has said that people should be notified in advance and safety measures should be publicized to prevent potential hazards.
Systematic monitoring of traffic towards sensitive areas should be done. Keep machinery ready to deal with emergency situations. Arrangements should be made for the relocation of people living in low-lying areas, the advisory directed.
