The protected clients who use 200 units or fewer per month won't be impacted by the base rate increase.


Islamabad: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) once again massive hike in base tariffs of electricity by Rs7.50 per unit on Thursday.
In a notification, the power regulatory authority said the new tariffs would be effective from August 1, 2023, fulfilling the conditions of International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The latest increase in power rates will not apply to lifeline customers. The protected clients who use 200 units or fewer per month won't be impacted by the base rate increase.
After the increase of Rs3, the cost of electricity will rise to Rs16.48 per unit for users who use up to 100 units per month.
The announcement states that the rate was raised by Rs4 to Rs22.95 per unit for consumption of 101 to 200 units.
Furthermore, for the consumers utilizing 201 to 300 units, the power cost has also gone up by Rs5, making it Rs27.14 per unit.
The cost was increased by Rs6.5 for use of 301 to 400 units, making it Rs32.03 per unit. The power cost will increase by Rs7.5 for consumption of 401–500 units, making it Rs35.24 per unit.
The cost will rise by Rs7.5 for use of 501 to 600 units, making it Rs36.66 per unit.
For consuming more than 700 units, the power tariff will be increased by Rs7.5, taking it to Rs42.72 per unit. After the inclusion of sales tax, Rs50.41 per unit will be charged at maximum.
The lifeline customers consuming 50 units in a month would continue to pay Rs3.95 per unit for power.
The per unit electricity cost, Rs7.74, will remain same for the lifeline consumers using 51 to 100 units in a month.
