President, PM urge nation to uphold values, principles represented by battle of Karbala
The President and the Prime Minister say the incident of Karbala gives a message to Muslims that they should be ready to offer any sacrifice for the promotion of high values and principles of Islam.


Islamabad: Remembering the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have urged the nation to uphold the values and principles that the battle of Karbala represents.
In their separate messages to commemorate Ashura, the President and the Prime Minister said the incident of Karbala gives a message to Muslims that they should be ready to offer any sacrifice for the promotion of high values and principles of Islam.
The President said the companions of Imam Hussain (RA) taught us the importance of loyalty, righteousness and supporting those who struggle for truth and justice.
He said we should give up personal luxuries and desires for the greater good of society and betterment of humanity.
The Prime Minister in his message said this day reminds us that standing against oppression is a moral duty of a Muslim.
He said Imam Hussain's (RA) sacrifice teaches us the priceless lesson of unshakable faith, righteousness and justice.
The Prime Minister said we should learn from Imam Hussain's (RA) sacrifice to deal with the challenges and trials that our nation and the entire Muslim Ummah are facing today.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif says the Holy Prophet's (PBUH) beloved grandson stood up to safeguard the moral basis of Islam and left an indelible imprint on the history of mankind.
In connection with Ashura being commemorated today, the Prime Minister tweeted that no sacrifice has matched that of Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his companions including women and children in its sublimity, symbolism and universality of message.
He said despite the passage of almost 1400 years, the memory and remembrance of the supreme sacrifice rendered by the Holy Prophet's (PBUH) family has shaped human consciousness and animated global struggles for truth, justice and freedom.
The Prime Minister said for those oppressed by tyranny of power, the Imam's example offers lessons in resistance, endurance and patience, keeping the flame of hope alive in the hearts despite pitch darkness.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the great sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) by recalling a beautiful verse by Josh Maleeh Abadi that meant every sane person and nation would own and remember Imam Hussain (RA) and his great principles.
