Pakistan Shaheens suffer defeat in first T20 match against NT Strike
Pakistan Shaheens will play the second match on Monday.
Gardenzavoll: Pakistan Shaheens faced a 59-run defeat against NT Strike in the opening match of the Top End T20 Series 2023.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, NT Strike set a target of 185 runs for Pakistan Shaheens, losing five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
The highlight of the match was Jack Wood's splendid all-round performance, scoring 24 runs and claiming four wickets.
In response, Pakistan Shaheens struggled to find stability and were bowled out for 126 runs in 18.4 overs. Perm Opal and Josh Kahn showcased impressive batting performances for NT Strike.
Perm Opal's unbeaten 59 runs off just 28 balls included six fours and two sixes, while Josh Kahn aggressively contributed 47 runs off 31 balls, featuring four sixes and two fours. Jason Sangha added 26 runs, and Jack Wood scored 24 runs.
Arafat Minhas and Alyan Mehmood took two wickets each for Pakistan Shaheens.
Pakistan Shaheens' innings began on a disappointing note, with both Basit Ali and Chavez Irfan getting dismissed on the first two balls of the first over.
Despite partnerships forming, the team couldn't find a strong position due to regular wicket losses.
Captain Rohail Nazir's 41-run inning with two sixes and a four was not enough to secure a victory.
At the time of his dismissal, Pakistan Shaheens were at 91 runs for five wickets.
Looking to bounce back, Pakistan Shaheens will take on ACT Comets in their second match on Monday.
