Karachi: An electricity bomb has been dropped on power consumers of Karachi as an increase of Rs2.31 per unit was approved in the monthly fuel price.
According to details, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a price hike notification for one month. K-Electric had requested an increase of Rs2.34 per unit.
The notification stated the increase will be applied to the bills of the month of August for the people of Karachi.
It will be applied to all electric consumers except Lifeline and electric vehicle charging stations.
The NEPRA authority held a hearing on fuel price adjustment on July 26. After K Electric, consumers of government-run discos have also given a high-voltage shock as the price of electricity for consumers has been increased by Rs1.81 per unit.
NEPRA has issued a notification of increase for consumers of government distribution companies.
According to the notification, the increase was made in the context of adjustment of monthly fuel charges of government-run discos.
The increase will be applied only to August bills. According to authority, it will be applied to all consumers of discos except Lifeline and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.
Consumers of distribution companies will have an additional burden of 24 billion. KE customers will have to pay an additional Rs4.30 billion.
