Islamabad: The outgoing government had plans to build an Olympic village in Islamabad's Margalla foothills that would have covered more than 1200 Kanals.

PM Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday when the project was discussed.

The Olympic Village would be built on 1200 kanals of land at the foot of the Margalla Hills, it was announced at the conference.

A cricket academy, an international cricket stadium, a hockey rink, a tennis complex, an athletics stadium, indoor sports, an international hotel, and parking facilities would all be included as part of the international grade sports facilities.

It was revealed that an estimated Rs 3 billion has been set aside for the Olympics Village's building.

Speaking at the event, PM Shehbaz instructed the appropriate authorities to create a corporate structure "which should be supervised by the relevant experts" for the development of the Olympic Village.

According to the prime minister, youth make up the majority of Pakistan's population. The young energy of individuals can be used productively by participating in sports, he noted.

He recalled the government's historic initiatives to promote sports in the nation, including the establishment of the nation's first sports university in Islamabad and the commencement of a national sports program.
