Islamabad: The Quetta International Airport will now bear the name of Shaheed Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, according to a resolution passed by the National Assembly.
According to the resolution, the choice was made in light of Akbar Khan Bugti's significant contributions to the nation and democracy.
The largest airport in the province of Balochistan, Quetta International Airport is also fourth highest airport in Pakistan and the second-largest in the country's southern region.
It occupies a 35-acre plot of land located 12 kilometers to the southwest of the city.
The resolution was presented by MNA (NA-174) Syed Samu ul Hassan Gillani.
It's important to remember that Bugti passed away on August 26, 2006. He was the Bugti tribe's Tumandar (chief), a Baloch official who also held the positions of governor and minister of state for the interior.
He also became minister of state for defence in the cabinet of Feroz Khan Noon. Nawab Akbar Bugti had three wives and thirteen children (6 sons and 7 daughters).
