Pop music queen Nazia Hassan remembered on her 23th death anniversary
She became the first Pakistani artist to appear on the British music charts with her English-language hit Dreamer Deewane.


The legendary pop singer Nazia Hassan, who fought a long battle with lung cancer, died in London on 13 August 2000 at the age of 35.
Nazia made her singing debut with the song Aap Jaisa Koi from a 1980 Indian film, Qurbani. Her debut album, Disco Deewane, released in 1981, charted in 14 countries worldwide, and became the best-selling Asian pop record at the time.
Born on April 3, 1965, the “Queen of Pop”, as she was called, started her career at the age of 10 as a child artist. She rose to prominence through the popular Pakistan Television programme Sung Sung.
She was incredibly well-liked throughout South and Southeast Asia. Nazia went on to sell over 65 million records globally with her brother Zoheb Hassan.
She became the first Pakistani artist to appear on the British music charts with her English-language hit Dreamer Deewane.
Nazia was a lawyer and a social activist in addition. She holds degrees from the University of London, The American International University, and Richmond, and she has won numerous national and international honors.
At the age of 15, Nazia won the Filmfare, a prestigious Indian film award, making history as the first Pakistani singer to do so. She continues to hold the record for being the award's youngest ever winner.
She was also given the Pride of Performance Award, which is the highest civilian honor in the country.
Nazia was a singer who appeared in movies and was also a humanitarian. In 1991, UNICEF named him as its cultural ambassador. Her most recent album, Camera Camera (1992), was a part of a drug-advocacy campaign.
However, August 13 marks the death anniversary of the most iconic figures in the history of Pakistani pop music, Nazia Hassan.
