Islamabad: Secretary Foreign Affairs Asad Majeed Khan paid a farewell call on President Dr. Arif Alvi in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The President felicitated Asad Majeed Khan on successfully completing his tenure as the 31st Foreign Secretary. He also appreciated the secretary's professionalism and the initiatives on the foreign front.
In a separate development, President Dr. Arif Alvi urged the pharmaceutical industry to locally manufacture contraceptive devices to ensure their better access to the people and check the population growth.
Addressing Medhealth Expo and Summit 2023 in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said out of nine million pregnancies reported annually in Pakistan, fifty percent are unwanted. He said this matter can be addressed by making the contraceptives more accessible.
The President noted that Africa is a big market and there is a great scope for our pharma exports to the continent. He said there is a scope of research in Pharmaceutical Industry by the use of Artificial Intelligence.
The President called for a greater focus on promoting preventive healthcare in the country, stressing it is not only cost-effective but will help reduce burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
