Islamabad: In just 387 accidents on highways and motorways during the course of the previous year, up to 503 people were killed and 270 others were hurt.
The National Highways Authority (NHA) and Motorways police have released a detailed report about accidents that occurred on major roads countrywide.
In accordance with the NHA's records, 128 accidents on highways and motorways involved no recorded casualties.
According to the report, there were 23 accidents on highways and motorways in July 2022, 39 incidents in August, 26 accidents in September, 32 accidents in October, 39 accidents in November, and 34 accidents in December.
Documents from January of this year show that there were 27 incidents on highways and motorways, followed by 34 in February, 26 in March, 32 in April, 26 in May, 35 in June, and 14 in July 2023.
According to a representative for the National Highways and Motorways Police, speeding and disregard for traffic laws are the main contributors to accidents.
He continued by saying that the National Highways and Motorways Police impounded smoke-emitting and poorly maintained automobiles.
