Former DG FIA Bashir Memon joins PML-N
Bashir Memon served from October 2018 to April 2020 as the FIA director-general.
Lahore: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) former chief Bashir Memon has formally become a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday.
Memon was designated as the chairman of the Sindh committee in an announcement by PML-N Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz, who was in charge of planning Nawaz Sharif's welcome.
In a statement released by Maryam Nawaz, it was announced that Bashir Memon has been chosen to lead the Sindh welcoming committee for Nawaz Sharif.
According to the party’s notification, the committee also includes Muhammad Zubair, Khil Das Kohistani and Nihal Hashmi.
The committee is set to ensure the participation of party workers in Nawaz Sharif’s welcome event on October 21.
Bashir Memon served from October 2018 to April 2020 as the FIA director-general.
He resigned from his post after he was allegedly asked by the PTI government and former prime minister to initiate cases against the opposition leaders, especially the PML-N.
He claimed that he was pressured to file cases against Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Shehbaz Sharif, and other PML-N members on charges of corruption, money laundering, and treason.
He also accused the PTI government of interfering in the FIA’s investigations and manipulating the evidence.
Bashir Memon stated in an interview that the PTI chairman had invited him to his home and urged him to file investigations against the PML-N leaders.
