Pakistan reaffirms commitment for peaceful, stable South Asia despite threats
Khalil Hashmi says Pakistan has proposed a number of initiatives to promote peace and security and prevent the emergence of nuclear weapons in South Asia.

Islamabad: At the United Nations, Pakistan has reiterated that despite continuing threats, it remains committed to the goal of a peaceful and stable South Asia.
The resolve was expressed by Pakistan’s permanent representative to UN offices in Geneva, Khalil Hashmi while speaking at the General Assembly’s First Committee that deals with disarmament and international security matters.
He said over the past quarter century, Pakistan has proposed a number of initiatives to promote peace and security and prevent the emergence of nuclear weapons in South Asia.
Referring to the situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistani envoy warned that India’s continued repression of Kashmiris' right to self-determination, in defiance of the Security Council resolutions, poses a grave threat to regional and international peace and security.
He said strategic stability is also threatened by India, as it continues to receive abundant supply of conventional and non-conventional weaponry, as well as new sensitive technologies and platforms.
Khalil Hashmi reaffirmed the need for equitable and balanced disarmament measures that ensure each State’s right to security, with no individual State or group of States gaining advantages over others.
