Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Wednesday ordered to impose a fine of Rs2,000 on motorcyclists who do not use helmets across Punjab.
According to details, Justice Shahid Karim issued a written order on the petitions filed for remedying the smog.
The court ordered that Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will not start any project in future without the permission of the court. LDA will also take instructions from the Environment Department for development projects.
In a written order, the court has also directed to impose a fine of Rs5,500 for washing cars in houses, parking on green belts, while ordering the concerned authorities to plant more Mawaki forests in the city. It also ordered steps should be taken to preserve old trees.
According to the decision, the relevant officers will take action against the kilns that emit black smoke. Action will be taken against the officers who do not take action against the kilns.
It is pertinent to note that citizens including Haroon Farooq and others have filed petitions in the High Court to remedy the smog.
