Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday affirmed their commitment to "consultation and cooperation" as they discussed the country's overall situation, including the forthcoming general elections.

The meeting took place at Shehbaz Sharif's residence in Model Town, Lahore, where the two leaders exchanged views on the challenges facing the nation. They stressed that the crises confronting Pakistan can only be effectively addressed through collaborative efforts.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to Maulana Fazl for his role in helping to steer Pakistan away from the brink of financial collapse during the 16 months of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) tenure. He emphasized that during this period, the focus of all political parties was on safeguarding the nation rather than partisan politics, emphasizing that consultation and cooperation are vital to navigate Pakistan out of its challenges.

Shehbaz Sharif also expressed optimism that the return of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif will contribute to the strengthening of the political and democratic system.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman hailed Nawaz Sharif's return as a positive development for Pakistan and highlighted the exposure of the fact that Nawaz Sharif had been targeted for political vengeance.

He characterized the unjust persecution of Nawaz Sharif and his family as a dark chapter in the country's history and criticized the use of the label "thieves" for political leaders as a form of political engineering.
