Antonio Guterres's statement, released via a prominent social media platform, emphasizes the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Middle East to address the massive human suffering that has resulted from the conflict.
Guterres stated, "I call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East in order to alleviate the massive human suffering."
The United Nations Security Council is poised to vote on a resolution submitted by Brazil that aims to facilitate access to humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
This vote was initially scheduled for Monday but was postponed for 24 hours.
Subsequently, it was further delayed due to the visit of U.S. President Joe Biden to Israel.
