Chennai: In the 16th match of the ICC ODI World Cup, New Zealand found themselves facing a challenging situation against Afghanistan as their batting lineup struggled to maintain stability.
After 26 overs of play, the Kiwi team managed to put up a total of 122 runs on the scoreboard but had already lost four crucial wickets.
The Afghan bowlers exhibited their prowess as they made quick work of New Zealand's key players.
Devon Conway, the opener for New Zealand, was dismissed for 20 runs, courtesy of an impressive delivery from Mujeebur Rahman.
Will Young fought valiantly, accumulating 54 runs, but fell victim to Azmatullah Umarzai, who took his wicket at a critical juncture.
Richan Ravindra contributed 32 runs to the scoreboard before being bowled out by Azmatullah Umarzai.
Daryl Mitchell's time at the crease was short-lived, as he was dismissed by Rashid Khan after scoring just one run.
The match is being held in Chennai, with Afghanistan having won the toss and choosing to field.
Both New Zealand and Afghanistan have played three matches each in the World Cup.
