India beat England by 100 runs in ICC World Cup 2023 match

Lucknow: In a display of impeccable form, India secured their sixth consecutive victory in the ICC World Cup 2023, triumphing over England by a margin of 100 runs at Ekana Sports City, Lucknow on Sunday.

With this win, India appears to be on the verge of securing a spot in the tournament's semi-finals.

England's chances, on the other hand, appear increasingly bleak. The defending champions have only managed one victory in six matches, which came against Bangladesh in Dharamshala.

England faced a formidable challenge in front of India's lethal pace attack and found themselves struggling at 39-4, with their top-order batsmen, including Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, dismissed, the latter two departing without contributing a run. India's spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja added to England's woes, claiming three wickets between them.

Mohammad Shami stood out as India's top bowler, delivering a stellar performance with four wickets for just 22 runs. Jasprit Bumrah also made a significant contribution, securing three wickets for India.

The second innings witnessed a historic moment, as both teams' number three batsmen, Virat Kohli and Joe Root, were dismissed without scoring a single run, a first in the history of the Cricket World Cup.

In the batting department, India encountered difficulties on a challenging Lucknow pitch. Opener Shubman Gill departed early, scoring just nine runs, leaving India at 26-1 after four overs. Kohli and Shreyas Iyer also fell to England's bowlers, leaving India at 40-3 in 11.5 overs.

However, a vital 91-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul provided some respite for India. After Rahul's departure, Suryakumar Yadav joined Sharma in the middle. Sharma's impressive 87-run innings came to an end when he was caught by Liam Livingstone, failing to read Adil Rashid's googly.

India managed to reach a total of 229-9 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks in part to Yadav's valuable 49 runs, falling just one run short of his half-century.

England now will take on Australia on November 4 while India will lock horns with Sri Lanka on Novembe 2 in Mumbai.
